Inner leadership is about continuously clarifying what is important to us. Often times, we spend so much time coping with the problems, we forget why we are on this path in the first place.
This is where the real work begins.
As I always say, we can only lead others to the depths in which we have led ourselves.
We can’t expect others to be more open and willing to improve than we are.
We can’t expect others to engage in feedback loops if we as leaders can’t engage or accept feedback ourselves.
We can’t expect others to buy into a vision if we haven’t inspired or bought into the vision ourselves.
The list goes on.
We never truly arrive though. As we strive for inner leadership, it’s a journey. We are always learning and evolving.
People with high levels of personal master are continuously expanding the ability to create the results they seek, but the key to all of it is, is the ability to lead oneself first.
And I’ll end on this note- people that engage in inner leadership, have stronger relationships with stakeholders, are faster learners and are less likely to burn out.
I’d love to hear from you. How you practice self leadership and what results have you noticed or what have you learned about yourself in the process?
